David & Nadia Sadie, David Chenin Blanc, Swartland 2014 (£24.95)
Jancis Robinson: “ Open, rather floral nose. Good energy. Great acidity and texture. Real persistence. Lots to chew on. A million miles from supermarket Chenin. No hurry to drink this. ” 16.5/20 points

Vin Cognito: “Expressive but not hugely aromatic or showy, this is a fine example of “less is more”. Apple, pear, yellow stone fruits and a hint of lanolin and white flowers lead to grapefruit pith freshness and a tangy mineral seam that gives some zip to its otherwise mellow feel. This is a wine that really gets to the heart of the grape variety. Its impact isn't immediate, as the flavours are subtle and understated, which is partly due to the absence of any new oak. The 11 months the wine has spent on its lees have contributed to its beautifully fine and textured mouthfeel. It is linear and precise with beautifully-judged acidity and a slight waxiness coming through on the finish. Super classy.”

David & Nadia Sadie, David Aristargos, Swartland 2015 (£24.95)
Jancis Robinson: “Intriguing, dense nose that suggests there is much more to come. Very rich start - almost Grasmere gingerbread (including the cut peel), a hint of saltiness - and then admirable freshness. (Is this the Paardebosch soil? The Clairette and Chenin?)  Very complex with real chew and layers. You could enjoy this already but I feel it will develop too. Great stuff! 13.5%” 17/20 points

Vin Cognito note: “The nose shimmers with vivid citrus and ripe stone fruit flavours, which are livened up by notes of lemon rind, honeysuckle, quinine and a crackling quartz-like minerality. As well as lovely richness it is beautifully fresh and has great vigour. This is sophistication in a bottle, a wine that has lovely detail and is as enigmatic as it is compulsive/compelling. Really impressive now, but as it unwinds over the next five years it will reach even greater heights."

David & Nadia Sadie, David Grenache, Swartland 2015 (£29.00)
Jancis Robinson: “The 2012 vintage of this was my wine of the week in June 2014 - my introduction to the excellent and exceptional work of David and Nadia Sadie. Pale - very pale - ruby. Very sweet, almost strawberry jam, on the nose, yet with sufficient refreshment. Great liveliness, poise and real minerally chew - granite-derived?  Really distinguished - a southern hemisphere answer to Gredos Garnacha? Such a lovely take on this variety. 13.5%. Drink 2016-2021.” 17.5/20 points

Vin Cognito: “Lovely and expressive with a delicate medium-bodied structure and bright, charming wild strawberry and cherry fruit character and a pretty floral flourish. It’s so silky on the palate with its lacy tannins, and in addition to the succulent, juicy palate there’s a fine mineral underbelly which adds to the elegant,  mouthfeel. Really finely tuned and well-crafted. A benchmark Grenache.”

David & Nadia Sadie, David Elpidios, Swartland 2014 (£29.00)
Jancis Robinson: “Pale to mid ruby. This really does smell like the cocktail promised on the back label. Very complex and composed. Still quite a bit of structure - a firm line through all that fruit - but the tannins seem well in balance with all that opulent yet reined-in-by-terroir fruit. Spice and masses of depth. Such a light touch! Long, toasty on the finish, and rich - but with great energy too. Well done! Really very smart indeed, but beautifully original and definitively Swartland. 13.5%. Drink 2017-2024.” 17/20 points

Richard Hemming (JancisRobinson.com): “Awesome fruit clarity - modern, sensitive, crisp, delightful. So subtle and light-hearted. Effortless and fragrant. (RH) 13.5%. Drink 2016-2018.” 17/20 points

Vin Cognito note: “An intriguing nose that is at once ripe, dark and a little brooding, yet also fresh, lively and really perfumed. It has a pure and concentrated core of blackberry and strawberry fruit with some wild scrub savouriness, a stony/granite minerality and hints of pepper infusing the fruit. The palate is fleshy and with fine-grained tannins, which leads to a feisty spicy finish that you want to keep returning to. This is a wine with enormous character and a definite structure, and it has a remarkably unforced and uninhibited feel about it which is so appealing.”
