Pouilly-Fumé ‘Corty Artisan’ Domaine Moreux mixed case

from 129.00

A mixed case containing either 3 or 6 bottles each of:

Pouilly-Fumé ‘Silex’, Corty, Loire, France 2017
This opens with punchy mineral aromas, but it settles down into something silky and demure on the palate. It doesn’t play the Sauvignon Blanc card, it plays something more sophisticated, the alchemy of soil and grape. There’s a sense of crunchy green fruits whose skin cracks when you bite into them - greengages and gooseberries - as well as whetstone, gun flint and hint of blackcurrant buds. It would be a fabulous food wine with things like salmon tartare, seared scallops or fatty tuna sashimi or more rustic fare like fish paté, goats’ cheese on toast or fresh langoustines. It’s drinking well now, but has many joyful years ahead of it. 13% alc. Drink now-2028.

Pouilly-Fumé ‘Caillottes’, Corty, Loire, France 2017
Dynamite aromas! Literally and figuratively. An impression of fractured rock. Chalky drill bits. Then the fruit comes through and it’s frosty winter fruits at first, all nervy and steely, but it then unfurls a little showing youthful white-fleshed fruits before unfurling once again to reveal a dash of honeysuckle nectar that brings a tender succulence to the zippier fruits. Great tension and backbone on the palate thanks to the classic trinity of acidity, minerality and fruit intensity. It’s more concentrated than the ‘Silex’, yet still satisfyingly dry and mouthwatering showing zesty lemongrass, green peppercorns, nettles and lime and we noted a little bit of grip to the texture, which can be attributed to the wealth of dry extract (the tasty stuff from the skins left behind after fermentation). Exemplary Pouilly-Fumé. 13% alc. Drink now-2025.
