12.50

Tons of character for a wine at this price and, although it's made using 'natural' wine-making practices, it manages to avoid smelling like dung or tasting like cider. It's a pure Garnacha, hand-harvested from low-yielding old vines grown at altitude in Calatayud. Naturally fermented in stainless steel aged in large French oak puncheons (40% new) for 12 months with no additives only minimal sulphur at bottling. Ripe plums, cherry skins and leather come to the fore as well as a hint of brettanomyces and a bit of volatile acidity, but they add complexity instead of running riot. 14.5% alc. Drink now-2017.

Press review:

Jancis Robinson MW: "Jazzy colourful typographical label. Organic. Very old-vine Garnacha on slate. Six months in old barrels. Deep purplish crimson. Round and sweet. Lots of fruit and vitality. Good Value." 16 points
