Remember when life was fun? It was sometime back in the 1970s. You’d cycle (without a helmet, of course) to the local playground, where you’d spend the whole day (unsupervised, of course) doing your best not to exfoliate yourself on the scalding metal slide or catch tetanus from the wooden climbing frame. When you were hot you’d drink straight from a rusty tap and when your mum came to pick you up, her idea of a seatbelt was to put her left arm across you just before rear-ending the car in front. Life was reckless, but we survived. Nowadays if a kid goes out roller-blading for half an hour, they look like they’re part of a bomb disposal unit.

I say this, because we’ve all become a bit namby-pamby, even when it comes to wine. This mighty Australian Cabernet Sauvignon is a case in point. It’s fantastically delicious; a decadent, full-bodied, sun-drenched behemoth and as joyful to drink as flying off a merry-go-round into a blackberry bush, but it’s 16% alcohol and we know that many people will hit the panic button after seeing that. 16%!? Fetch me the safety goggles and the hazchem suit! Sheesh. When did we all become so precious? Yes, it might give you a slightly worse hangover than a 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, but that wine won’t give you the feeling of being rolled down a steep hill inside a giant tyre full of blueberries and cream like this one does. It’s as plush and ghetto-fabulous as a plum in a purple pimp suit and will take you on a hedonistic nostalgia tour of all your happy places. Live a little? No thank you. Live a lot! 16% alc. Drink now-2039.
