Burn Cottage Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand 2014

Gorgeous! Quite a deep colour, but then it is Central Otago. Brambly, thorny fruits with savoury wood and sappy lift. Really sensational on the palate, like drinking molten rubies. Morello cherry, orange, apricot, mandarin, strawberry and vanilla. So pretty as it fades away. Fully biodynamic. Wild yeasts. Mostly old oak barrels, just a quarter new oak. Sourced from 9 separate blocks within a 10 hectare vineyard, comprising 10 different clones and 4 different rootstocks! Very low sulphur (25ppm). 13.4% alc. Drink now-2027.

Decanter Magazine: “Seductive, floral and gently perfumes with a core of light red fruits and sweet oak. Softly spicy and organic. Complex, plush, soft, generous and enticing. Very fine tannins, exciting wine, long finish. Drink 2018-2026. Alcohol 13.4%.” 19/20 points

The Wine Advocate
: "The 2014 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir has a profoundly perfumed nose with well-defined notes of violets, lavender, red roses and fragrant earth over a core of black cherries and mulberries plus a waft of cloves. Medium-bodied with a seamless backbone of finely grained tannins and lively acid, it gives an abundance of pure black and red berry flavors, finishing with superb length." 93+ points

JancisRobinson.com: "Very fine cherry fruit. So delicate, lightly stemmy/herbal. Light as a feather and with great finesse and length." 17/20 points

Wine Spectator:
"Bold and expressive, with a black licorice accent to the plum and black cherry core. Hints of orange zest, black tea and sage add aromatic intrigue. Smooth and plush on the long finish." 92/100 points
