This is a ‘proper’ Cotes du Rhone and by ‘proper’ we mean a wine that could pass itself off as a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, because that’s what we look for in a ‘proper’ Cotes du Rhone. We tasted this alongside numerous examples of both and it was clear that a lot of the Chateauneuf-du-Papes didn’t deserve their title, while very few of the Cotes du Rhones exceeded expectations, but this was the tall poppy in the room. It’s big and bold, rich and complex and churns with dark brambly fruit and spice. Drink now-2026.

Press review:

Previous vintage: The Wine Advocate: “One seriously good wine, the 2015 Cotes du Rhone is a big, rich, unctuous beauty that's loaded with fruit and texture. Scheduled to be bottled shortly after my visit, it offers lots of darker fruits (blackberries, black cherries), garrigue and saddle leather aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, ripe tannin and a layered personality that will keep it drinking beautifully for 4-5 years.“ (90-92) points
