Hush Heath 'Manor' Pinot Noir, Kent, England 2015

More and more we have customers who ask us about English wines and how good we think they are. The truth is that aside from some excellent sparkling wines (Wiston Estate, Sugrue-Pierre and Nyetimber spring to mind), the still whites and reds from this sceptered isle have left us feeling a little numb and uninspired.

We came across this Pinot Noir from Kent at a tasting of over 400 wines (including over 35 Pinot Noirs) and it was one of just a handful that we walked away and really remembered. How could something with so much sweet-scented charm and balance be English? It’s never going to win an award for value for money, but once you’ve accepted you are paying a premium for the words ‘English Quality Wine’ on the label, you’re in for a treat. Pale and delicate with abundant strawberry and red-cherry fruit, rosehip and the merest hint of spice from the gentle oaking, this is like a health juice. It skates across the palate with light footwork, a silky mouthfeel and feathery acidity, and it comes in at just 11% alc. An English delight. Drink now – 2018.

Press Reviews:

“Finding a still English red wine in the UK is still pretty impossible, but I think we may have found something special from Hush Heath Estate. Its ”Manor” Pinot Noir 2015 is a marvel. Bright clean, refreshing enticing clean berries, touch of cedar, delicate fresh ground black pepper, Kentish raspberry finish”
