Hyde Villaine is a joint venture between Larry Hyde, scion of one of the oldest farming families in California, with vineyard plantings dating back to the early 1800s, and Aubert de Villaine, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Both men have a profound depth of viticultural experience and if you were a grape you would beg to be picked by either one of them, because you know they'll stretch you to the very limit of your capabilities.

This glorious wine is a blend of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and brings to mind some of the great wines of Saint Emilion, and Peby Faugeres in particular, with its aromatic bravado. One swirl of the glass releases blueberries, shiny red cherries, milk chocolate, creamy mint, and warm terracotta. The palate is as smooth as a smoking jacket, but tightens things up with its sleek acidity and distinctly European tannins, providing a structural integrity that prevents the wine becoming overblown. It is at a perfect stage for drinking now, but will live on for many years. 14.5% alc. Drink now-2024.
