The French have a word for wines like this, they call them “glouglou”, echoing the sound that wine makes makes when poured (or even swallowed) quickly, but it’s not just an onomatopoeic term, it captures the spirit of these unstuffy, sociable wines made for pouring into tumblers and sharing with friends or even necking from the bottle. So we did. And it’s bloomin’ brilliant! It takes the flavours of Bordeaux (it’s mostly Merlot with some Cab Franc, Malbec and Cab Sav), but makes it check its jacket and tie at the door. It has a lovely, shiny dark plum colour and aromas of damson, autumn leaves, Black Jacks, sweet tobacco and cocoa powder, but what really marks it out is its easy drinkability. 3% alc. Organic.
