Le Cupole Tenuta di Trinoro, Tuscany 2012

"This is without question one of the very finest wines being made in Tuscany today in its price range.”  - The Wine Advocate

Vin Cognito Tasting note (James): "The 2012 Le Cupole from Tenuta di Trinoro is a sumptuous beauty. Deep crimson in colour it offers up heady scents of glossy blackcurrant, black tea, cinnamon and wood polish, but the aromas aren’t like a teaser rate, there’s depth and substance to the palate too, and, just like another of my favourite Tuscan wines, Le Macchiole's 'Paleo', it shows just how luxurious Italian Cabernet Franc can be, especially when plumped up with a little Merlot. There's a velvety richness that gives the initial impression of a ripe, young Saint-Emilion (Cheval Blanc anyone?), but its Tuscan features also shine through with hints of wild cherry and dusty terracotta tannins. Enjoy this beauty now for its youthful exuberance or tuck it away for up to a decade and enjoy it in what will surely be its magnificent maturity. 14.5% alc. Drink now-2032.”

Antonio Galloni: “One of the great values in Tuscan wine, the 2012 Cupole di Trinoro is simply stunning in this vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, liquorice, spice and leather notes jump from the glass in a vibrant, nuanced wine that captures the pedigree of Trinoro at a fraction of the price of the higher-end wines. The dark, voluptuous finish is truly a thing of beauty. This is a fabulous showing.

Andrea Franchetti simply nailed 2012. These are some of the most impressive wines I have ever tasted from Tenuta di Trinoro. As always, the wines are built on a total lushness and texture. When young, the Trinoro wines can sometime seem too intense, but with a little bottle age they truly begin to blossom. I tasted the 2012s twice a few months apart and was totally blown away both times. Readers who can find the 2012s should not hesitate, as they are truly magnificent. As good as the flagship Tenuta di Trinoro is, the Cupole remains one of the very best relative values in handmade, artisanal wines.” 92 points

Wine Enthusiast: “A delicious blend of 55% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon and a dash of Petit Verdot opens with aromas of concentrated black plum, blackberry, blue flowers and a whiff of leather. The juicy palate doles out fleshy black cherries, crushed raspberries, white pepper, clove and grilled herb while velvety tannins provide the framework. A liquorice note marks the close.” 93 points
