There’s a reassuring sense of nostalgia about this blend from the Vaucluse (a region in the western part of Provence along the border with the Rhone). It has a proudly natural, unembellished feel to it and is all about its fruit and perfume rather than ‘distracting’ us with oak or flash, modern winemaking – a wine that walks in bare feet and loves to feel the warmth of the southern sun on its skin. It’s made from a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon and freewheels across the palate with happy-go-lucky flavours of blackcurrant, cherries and mulberry fruit, lifted by perfumed top notes of spice, hillside herbs, with earth and woodsmoke giving it a lovely autumnal vibe. It gets its savour from the combination of tangy, fleshy red and black fruits and the earthy overtones from the terroir. With the added Cabernet dimension, this is a fun and rewarding alternative to good old-fashioned Cotes du Rhone. 13.5% alc. Drink now-2018.

NB. the bottle shape for the 2014 has changed from the Bordeaux-shaped bottle pictured above to a Burgundy-shaped bottle.
