Lethbridge 'Mietta' Pinot Noir, Geelong, Australia 2012

This might just be the best Pinot Noir ever to leave Australia. A bold claim, we realise, but we haven't tasted a better one and we've tasted a lot. There's a sensuality and a grandeur to the aromas, as you might find in a great Vosne-Romanée, giving the wine its soul and engaging you on a visceral level, stirring your emotions, not your technical appreciation.

It's seriously deep and deeply serious, evoking plum skins and wild cherry kola nut, cold embers and café au lait. It's still young with its best years ahead of it, but even in youth its unbearably delicious. 13% alc. Drink now-2022.

Press reviews:

Jancis Robinson:
"100% whole bunch, 100% new oak. Extraordinary earthy nose with coffee, chocolate and delicious red fruit with a long fragrant finish. Truly excellent." 18 points

The Australian Wine Companion: "Full colour; a Pinot that proclaims its class from the first whiff of cherry blossom morphing smoothly into dark cherry and plum fruit on the long, perfectly balanced palate; you can sense the spicy complexity that will come with further bottle age. One out of the box." 96 points

Customer comments:
