“This superb Syrah is consistently one of the best South African expressions of the grape.” - Tim Atkin. 95 points

There's a serene beauty to the landscape and the vineyards at Lismore estate that somehow translates into the wines, particularly this extraordinary Syrah Reserve, which echoes not only the fragrant, lifted Syrahs of the northern Rhone, but also brings some of the local flora into its fold, notably the fynbos and roibos bushes that grow nearby. It's a stunning rendition of the Syrah grape from the admirable Samantha O’Keefe. 13.5% alc. Drink 2020-2028.

Press reviews:

Tim Atkin MW: “Grown on shale soils in Greyton, this superb Syrah is consistently one of the best South African expressions of the grape, showing classic garrigue and pepper spice aromas, fresh acidity, deftly handled oak and succulent red berry fruit. Drink 2020-2028.” 95 points

Jancis Robinson.com: "Meat and smoke with violet perfume, pure blackberry fruit and cracked pepper. An absolute stunner. So perfectly flavoursome without any sense of being forced, showing a gentle hand at work. Tremendous." 18 points

Vinous: “The 2017 Estate Reserve Syrah comes entirely from Greyton, 40% whole cluster and aged in 500-litre barrels with 40% new oak. It has a very refined, perfumed bouquet of red cherries, crushed strawberry, broom, iris and a touch of potpourri. The palate is very well balanced, offering fine tannin on the entry, good weight in the mouth and blackberry, blueberry, clove, star anise and light fennel notes toward the finish. There is very good length here, but it needs another year or two in bottle to fully coalesce. Great potential.” 93+ points
