Ministry of Clouds Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia 2016

24.50

You don't have to be a Master of Wine to spot the quality of the fruit crammed into this bottle of joyful loveliness. It's one of the best wines we have tasted from the McLaren Vale and, as such, could demand a higher price tag, so although £24.50 isn't Monopoly money, it's extremely good value when seen in relation to its peers. It has all the depth and richness that you would expect from a good Ozzie Shiraz, but those floral grace notes are the hallmark of the great Syrahs from the Northern Rhone, from which it draws inspiration.

The grapes were sourced from a 70 year-old vineyard in Blewitt Springs, which brings the depth and grunt, and a high country Clarendon Hills site, which brings the violet and pepper top notes. All hand-harvested fruit, mostly destemmed, but 20% fermented as whole bunches. Basket-pressed into barriques for 11 months. 13.9% alc. Drink now-2025.
