This beautiful and gently mature red comes from the province of Kras on Slovenia's border with Italy. It is made from Terran, the local name for the Italian variety Refosco and is blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from 100 year-old vines. We can't imagine what a claret from the 2005 vintage that tasted as good as this would cost!

Jancis Robinson: "Mid garnet, still looks youthful in colour. Delicately fragrant and complex on the nose: there's still dark fruit, a hint of cassis leaf and tea leaf as well as the first notes of undergrowth. A little smoky and cedary too but so much peppery/dusty fruit even now. Super-refined and elegant. Has freshness and amazing complexity of bottle age and still showing that peppery fruit. A wine I could cry over. Eat your heart out bordeaux. There's still some very fine tannin, suggesting this is only just coming into its own. Mouth-watering finish. Very Very Good Value. (Julia Harding) 12% alc." 18 out of 20 points
