The important thing to remember when pronouncing this wine’s name, Pian del Ciampolo, is to avoid singing it to the tune of ‘La Dona e Mobile’, because it instantly becomes an earworm that you won’t shake off for days.

There are pygmies in the mountains of New Guinea, who roll their eyes when told about the quality of the 2015 vintage in Tuscany, so it's hardly a secret, but we are keen to bang the jungle drum as loudly as possible about the Pian del Ciampolo 2015, because it seems to encapsulate everything about this outstanding vintage: perfectly ripe Sangiovese with natural freshness underscored by traditional ageing in large oak casks, allowing the fruit to take centre stage. Here are some of the rave reviews it has received:

Press reviews:

The Wine Advocate: "I’m gearing up to buy the 2015 Pian del Ciampolo by the caseload. I recommend you do the same. Stock up for when you have family and friends hanging out in the kitchen for a convivial cook-off. The warm 2015 vintage was very kind to Montevertine thanks to its cooler vineyard sites in the high hills of Radda in Chianti. The entry-level Pian del Ciampolo represents a second selection of fruit with the best fruit dedicated to Le Pergole Torte. (Now there’s a wine I can’t wait to taste.) It is mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Colorino and Canaiolo. It is fermented with ambient yeasts in cement vats, later to age in large oak cask for one year. The wine opens to a darkly saturated colour and evident richness. Martino Manetti says his wines show a little more alcoholic power in this vintage compared to his neighbours. Ripe fruit flavours taper out on the finish to conclude with elegant tones of dusty mineral. This is a great deal from Tuscany." 92+ points

Antonio Galloni: "The 2015 Pian del Ciampolo is a total knockout. The warm vintage yielded an unusually ample, rich Pian del Ciampolo that punches well above its weight. Silky contours and racy, voluptuous fruit add to the wine's irresistible appeal. Even with all of its intensity, the 2015 retains a good bit of freshness. This is a wine of pure and total sensory pleasure. Don't miss it!" 93 points
