It's the aromas that hook you in like click bait, but it's not an empty tease concealing vacuous content, you'll be so glad you poked your nose in. What a joy this wine is! It's made by one of the finest producers of Brunello di Montalcino, Podere Le Ripi, but instead of Sangiovese it is made entirely from Syrah, so it can only be classified as a Toscana Rosso, but who the hell cares about bureaucracy when it tastes as good as this? The viticulture follows biodynamic principles and yields are very low (Podere le Ripi hold the record for the highest density planting in Europe at 62,000 vines per hectare!). It's made in the style of a riserva, so it spends 3 long years in barrel and a further few years in bottle before release. That long wallow in oak has mellowed the fruit and given lift to the aromas, with hints of dried fruit and flowers amid poached plum and tea leaves. It's as true to Tuscany as it is to the grape variety, so you find the blueberry and cracked pepper side of Syrah merging with classic Montalcino notes of high-toned cherry, sour plum and leather.  14.5% alc. Drink now-2025.

: "Smoked cherry nose. The fruit on the palate tastes a little deeper than it smells, spiked with dark spice, but terribly composed. Refined, classy and cultured, beautifully mature and ready. Drink 2017-2025" 17 points
