This is a big fur coat of a wine and you just want to snuggle right up to it for the night. Wonderfully warm and inviting aromas of glossy dark fruits, sweet black cherry, stewed plums, blackcurrant pastille, sage, forest floor, cocoa powder and mahogany draw you in. Like their Salice Salentino, which we also sell, it plants its flag firmly in southern Italy, but being two years younger than Salice Salentino, it is a little less expressive when you first open it up. Give it a couple of hours, though, and it really starts getting into its stride with notes of tomato leaf and fresh, sweet tobacco coming to the fore. The palate is velvety with ripe, powdery, fruit-soaked tannins that will continue to soften and the concentrated fruit is refreshed by a tangy black fruit acidity. It’s a gorgeous mouthful. Enjoy with a chargrilled steak or duck ragu. 100% Primitivo aged for 6 months in barrique and the rest in bottle. 14% alc. If possible, decant the wine before drinking. Drink now – 2019.
