"Bit expensive for a Rosso isn't it?"

A good divorce is better than a bad marriage and a good Rosso is better than a bad Brunello. Folks, this is a great Rosso! Decadently aromatic and richly-fruited, you'd be hard pushed to find many Brunellos that are better than this. It's an absolute stunner. Deep bass notes, decadent treble notes, opulent high tones, profound low tones, it is, both aromatically and in flavour terms, the 'full Italian' (a bit like a full English, but without the black pudding). It's not deep in colour but it's certainly rich in splendour and has finely-sculpted, sweet tannins.

A Brunello is only a Brunello because someone says it is. It's not embedded in its DNA, it's nothing more than an administrative decision and if we serve a function as an independent wine merchant, it is to highlight wines like this, whose qualities outperform their price tag, even if, in this case, it's "expensive for a Rosso".

Vinous (Antonio Galloni): "The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino Amore e Magia is quite a bit more open than the 2010 tasted alongside it, as the richness of the vintage has helped fill out the wine beautifully, something that only adds to the wine's considerable near-term appeal. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, mint and spice meld into the voluptuous, racy finish." 91 points
