Sepp Muster used the world's most famous cooper to make the barrels for this wine. As opening gambits go, that probably doesn't constitute a bombshell, but we found it interesting that the cooper makes bespoke barrels for each component of the blend after discussing the 'character' of the juice with the winemaker. A sort of haute couture for wine.

Moving swiftly on... this sumptuous blend of Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt and Blauer Wildbacher is surprisingly plush and fruit-soaked for an Austrian red, displaying plum skins, chocolate, vanilla and raisins as well as showing its age in its hints of scuffed leather and ink wells. It's perfectly mature now, showing richness as well as freshness, with the oak fully absorbed into the exuberant fruit. Sepp Muster follows biodynamic principles in the vineyard and the cellar. The wine was hand-harvested. and fermented with indigenous yeasts. No fining or filtering. Minimal sulphur. 12% alc. Drink now-2019.
