Terroir Al Limit is a fascinating project that was founded in 2001 by German wine- and food-lover, Dominik Huber, and South African maverick and wine-making genius, Eben Sadie (although Eben has now left to concentrate on his projects in the Swartland). Their aim was to bring wines of elegance and finesse to the notoriously stark and difficult terrain of Priorat, working on a 'parcel' or 'cru' concept similar to Burgundy, Piedmont and the Mosel, where vineyards are demarcated according to their distinctive soils and microclimates. This wine, the Torroja Vi de Vila, is made in the same spirit as a village wine in Burgundy, in that it comprises several different parcels from vineyards around a specific village, in this case the small town of Torroja. It's a wonderfully silky blend of Garnacha and Carinyena with a textural richness that feels gentle, natural and unforced, the hallmark of Spain's 'New Wave'. Cherry skins, poached plums, chinese five spice and black raspberry feature prominently as the wine glides effortlessly across the palate scattering rose petals as it makes its final descent. 13.5% alc. Drink now-2020.

Press reviews:

The Wine Advocate: "A tad lower in acidity but surprisingly fresh, the 2015 Torroja Vi de Vila is fruit-driven with a caressing texture. It is a 50/50 blend of Cariñena and Garnacha from different vineyards on slate llicorella soils, fermented in oak and matured in foudre until bottling in late June 2016. There's something savoury in the nose here, perhaps iodine, hints of liquorice and a mix of flowers. It's very tasty, with deep flavours and very good persistence. This has great elegance and freshness. There are 16,800 bottles produced." 92 points
