Tinta Tinto Cabernet Sauvignon, Maipo, Chile 2015

It would be fair to say that Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the more austere grape varieties. It often comes in an upright 'Bordeaux' bottle, which in itself suggests rigidity with its straight back and firm shoulders - a wine with a stiff upper lip. So we were surprised and delighted to taste this Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, which is a much more languorous and insouciant expression of the grape, fittingly in a 'Burgundy' bottle, with more of a Pinot Noir sensibility to it. It's a soft-bellied beauty made by a small, family-owned winery where everything is done by hand (Roberto makes the wine and Javiera designs the eye-catching labels). There's a real touch of hand-woven quality to the wine and its mellow subtleties are already in evidence, so you can enjoy it now, but it will keep for a good 5 or 6 years at least. 13.7% alc. Drink now-2024.
