We approached this with an element of circumspection, mainly because we're not fans of young Malbec and we're still not huge fans of Chilean wines (no doubt through ignorance), but boy is this good! Frustratingly, very little is made, so we can't bang the gong too loudly, but if your curiosity has led you to this tasting note, then I would suggest you try a bottle or two..

It has real fruit richness for a young wine, it's neither stalky like newly fermented grape juice nor is the texture squeaky like the interior of a new car, it's ripe and supple and displays Malbec's floral top notes, which are all too often lost in translation thanks to flashy new oak. This wine was fermented in previously-used oak, which has integrated the tannins beautifully, and it was then aged for a year in the same barrels. Although it's young, it's seamless in texture and full of deep blackcurrant, blueberry and black cherry flavours. If Chile can make Malbec as pure as this, especially in terms of restrained oak influence, it could knock Argentina off it perch. A great new find made from 100 year-old vines! 13.5% alc. Drink now-2024. Suitable for vegans.
