How good is this? Well, the winemaker wanted to submit this vintage (2015) for Decanter Magazine’s big Shiraz tasting, because he knew how good it was and that it was better than the 2014, which was the vintage currently selling in the UK at the time, so he sent a bottle of the 2015 from Australia, but it didn’t arrive in time, so he was obliged to enter the 2014 vintage instead. When the results came out, the 2014 still managed to come first out of over 200 Shirazes tasted with a score of 96 points.

This vintage, from the 2015 harvest, is an absolute humdinger. It’s wonderfully rich, but there’s a vitality and freshness too that comes from the whole bunch fermentation, aligning it in both method and style with the northern Rhone. Tiny yields bring terrific concentration of molten blackcurrants and blueberry compote, along with a telltale hint of white pepper, while the 18 months in barrel has blunted any sharp edges, so the texture is sleek and glossy. This is right out of the top drawer. 15% alc. Drink now-2035.
