Arbois Chardonnay 'Les Crêts' Michel Gahier, Jura, France 2014

28.00

Michel Gahier is one of our favourite Jura producers even though he rudely failed to be in when we turned up unannounced at his winery one rainy Sunday afternoon. His Chardonnay les Crets 2014 has finely-detailed aromas of white flowers, pears, chalk dust and chopped almonds, which stamp the Jura's hallmark all over it without it being as overtly oxidative as some Arbois Chardonnays can be. It's there, but in the background, providing a slight smoky hint, but this wine is all about freshness and finesse and reminds us of the mineral-etched white Burgundies of Jean-Marc Roulot and Pierre-Yves Colin Morey. There's a keen acid streak that empowers the wine in equal measure to the ripe, white-fleshed fruits that linger so moreishly on the finish. Grab some while you can, as Gahier’s star is rising faster than we can keep up. Allocations are tiny. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2022.
