We confess that the craze for Gruner Veltliner passed us by when it first came rolling into town. “It smells of flowering fields!”, they said. “It’s the perfect food wine!”, they said. We looked on unmoved. We felt like the only people at the night club who didn’t know the tune. Now, I’m not going to say that we tasted this wine and the scales fell from our eyes, but it did give us a little insight into the fuss and what it was all about. It’s a wonderfully clean and pure wine, like crystal-clear mountain water, flavoured with sweet lime and white peach, flowing over broken slate. It’s so steely-dry yet ripe and sleek with a light chalky finish similar to Chablis. In fact, it’s seriously delicious, you really should jump on the bandwagon! 12.5% alc. Drink now-2023.

Press review:

The Wine Advocate: “The 2016 Grüner Veltliner Kammern is very clear, fresh and intense on the nose showing a nice mix of ripe and concentrated white fruits with lemon and flinty/mineral aromas. Full-bodied, elegant and fresh on the palate, this is a juicy, piquant and persistent Grüner from different vineyards of the village of Kammern. The wine has a long, dry and salty finish and can age for five to six years. Drink now-2025.” 88 points
