Kumeu River 'Maté's Vineyard' Chardonnay, New Zealand 2014

First there was Schubert's Symphony No.8 in B Minor, then there was The Mystery of Edwin Drood and now this...

The Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay delivers wonderful intensity with fragrant lemon, orange blossom and grapefruit aromas plus crushed stones, flint, toast and yeast extract hints. Medium-bodied, the palate is filled with vibrant citrus flavours and great acidity, finishing with excellent." 94+ points

Decanter Magazine:
"A bundle of deliciously nervous energy, driven by compelling juicy acidity. The toasty, nutty overlay is beautifully complex. Young, focused, tense and utterly winning. Drink 2017-2024. Alc. 13.5%.",

Bob Campbell MW: “Rich and creamy Chardonnay with white peach, chalk, mineral, citrus flavours together with cashew nut and bran biscuit flavours from oak maturation. Although not released at this stage, the flavours are beautifully integrated and the wine is a real pleasure to taste. Seriously good Chardonnay from a very favourable vintage.” 97 points

James Suckling: “This top bottling from the oldest vines is a powerful wine wound into a complex yet contained mode. It has plenty of savory hazelnut and biscuit aromas that combine with orange hints and flinty moments in the glass. The palate's fuller than the others, really fleshy and packed with peach flavors. A wine that demonstrates a sense of weight as it heads to the convincing finish.” 96 points

[errr that's it, folks!]
