A really great wine like this can change your mood in exactly the same way that Maroon 5 can't. From the very first note it brightens your spirits, because its aromas are like a spark-plug, firing your senses into action. It has a chiselled, flinty nose, a feature that is favoured by winemaker, Charles Ballot, who took over from his father ten years ago, and whose wines show a more mineral aspect than previously, but backed up with succulently ripe stone fruit flavours, a combination that makes the wine bristle with energy and gives it a quartz-like pulse.

It's the perfect balance between modern 'reductive' winemaking and classic old-school white Burgundy, so you get a bit of the fashionable 'struck match' thing, but it never dominates, so that the main impression is of gorgeously vital and opulent fruit underpinned by a sparkle of minerality and enriched by toasty, nutty flavours from the ageing in new oak (about 25%). We've been searching for a white Burgundy that ticks all the boxes, so we are thrilled with this, and we hope you will be too. 13% alc. Drink now-2020.
