Picpoul de Pinet, Villa des Croix, Languedoc, France 2017

“A stunning example of Picpoul de Pinet.” - Decanter (Marcel Orford-Williams), 98 points

This has just arrived in the UK and it’s already flying off the shelves! Why? Well, the nation’s addiction to buying Picpoul de Pinet comes second only to the nation’s addiction to saying Picpoul de Pinet. You’re doing it now aren’t you, I can hear you? Stop it and pay attention for a moment.

Decanter Magazine’s latest panel tasting has just awarded this Picpoul de Pinet (I said stop it!) an aggregated score of 95 points, which classifies as ‘Outstanding’, with one of the three panellists giving it 98 points (which is frankly ridiculous for a Picpoul, but one can only assume it was meant within the context of other Picpouls). Picking the perfect Picpoul is a perennial problem for people plagued by Picpoul paranoia, a debilitating condition in which you fear that others are drinking better Picpoul than you. With this delicious example from Villa des Croix (harvested at night to retain the cool freshness of the grapes!), you can rest assured that no one is. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2020.

Decanter’s Outstanding’ Picpoul de Pinet - 95 points - April 2019 issue.
Blind tasted by Andrew Jefford, Justin Howard-Sneyd MW and Marcel Orford-Williams.

Decanter, April 2019 issue, Picpoul de Pinet panel tasting

Decanter: (Andrew Jefford): “Steel-green; just off water-white. A sweeter, shellier aroma than many, fresh and marine: very attractive. Clean, lively, mouthwatering, lean and long: classic Picpoul in very good shape.” 97 points

Decanter (Justin Howard-Sneyd MW): “Some class here. Slightly green-edged, but with precision and delicacy. Nice fresh acidity lifted by a hint of pith.” 90 points

Decanter (Marcel Orford-Williams): “Super fruit. Still bags of life. A stunning example of Picpoul de Pinet.” 98 points
