They've been growing Ribolla Gialla in Friuli since at least 1296, when it was first documented under the name 'Rabola', so this discovery is hardly breaking news, but it merits a tinkle of the bell to catch your attention. Made by Rosa Bosco, the most talented-yet-unknown winemaker in Friuli (good luck finding any press reviews for her wines), it's extremely elegant and food-friendly, thanks to the subtle use of oak that adds no more than a hint of creaminess to the texture, allowing the notes of quince, yellow pear and nectarine to shine. Ribolla Gialla is a yellow-skinned grape variety (gialla is the Italian for yellow) and the best grapes are said to come from the Rosazzo sub-region of Friuli. No prizes for guessing where these grapes come from! 12.5% alc. Drink now-2017
