In the glass it shows a lovely silver-green colour, like frosty grass, which alludes to the type of wine you can expect and it’s not a false promise. This is a crunchy, zippy, dry white wine that combines the lime and white peach flavours of Riesling with the pear and lemon flavours of Pinot Blanc. If you need a ‘house wine’, something completely reliable and delicious that neither your knowledgeable nor your anti-Riesling friends can turn their nose up then this is it. Drink now-2020.

The Wine Advocate
: “The 2015 Rätzelhaft is a Riesling with a touch of Pinot Blanc, all coming from Piesport. Fermented in Doppefuder and Fuder oak vats as well as in stainless steel, this wine opens with an attractive clear, fresh and slatey-pure bouquet of ripe seed fruits and refreshing lemon aromas. Intense but light on the palate, this is a round and juicy white with fine tannins, good acidity and an intense finish.” 88 points
