They say that dogs often resemble their owners, but wines often resemble their makers. Take the reticent and taciturn Olivier Lamy, for example, whose white wines are as nervy and highly-strung as he is. This cuvée, named after the vineyard, which sits behind Edward's house, is a case in point. Sadly, Saint Aubin is no longer the great bargain that it used to be, because the secret is out, but the quality is getting better and better and anyone who has seen the magnificent vineyards that line the curving valley will appreciate why this is such a special place for growing Chardonnay, and know that it can compete on level terms with the more celebrated villages.

Jancis Robinson: “Hint of struck match. Lots to juice and freshness. Very lively and very well done. Nothing in excess. Still youthful." 17 points & 'Good Value'.

The Wine Advocate: “The 2013 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard has a marvellous, mineral-driven bouquet that soars from the glass with hints of wilted white flowers in the background. The palate is very well balanced, very harmonious, a wine where you can taste the vineyard’s white marn soils. It gradually builds to a very poised slightly peachy finish. Superb.” (91-93) points
