This is one for the cellar. Yes, it’s seductive now, but put the bottle down. Yes, the review below will make you want to crack one open now, but put - the - bottle - down! Lukas van Loggerenberg told us that his inspiration for this Cabernet Franc (known in the Loire as ‘Breton’) is Chinon, which needs years and years before it’s at its best. If you are like us, you will buy a case of wine, which needs a decade or so to reach its peak, and you will try a bottle every year to see how it’s getting on and by the time it’s ready to drink you’ve drunk the whole case. That won’t happen here, because we only have a handful of bottles, so grab one, stick it away in the cellar and forget about it until about 2025 if you can. We look forward to receiving your thank you note (please address it to the Old Vintners Retirement Home). Drink 2022-2035..

Press review:

Jancis Robinson:Cabernet Franc on granite in Polkedraai region (Lukas is a big Loire fan). 11 months in old French oak. Classically leafy Cab Franc nose. Lightly herbal and stemmy but rich in dark cassis and cassis leaf. Concentrated and still fresh. Juicy yet with good fruit depth. (JH). 13% alc. Drink 2020-2028” 17 points
