£14.50

Medium-pale, morello cherry red with a hint of chestnut. Spicy and smoky aromas over deeper plum skin and black cherry notes. Gaglioppo’s earthy, almost rusty rusticity is evident on opening, but it softens up to reveal lovely loose tea and tomato flavours that lift the wine and give it an autumnal character, not wholly dissimilar to a young Barolo, but the fruit is sweeter, like Pinot Noir, but grainier, like Grenache. Sometimes the task of describing a wine is almost impossible. 14% alc. Drink now-2028.

Press review:

JancisRobinson.com: “Gorgeous roasted-vine-tomato sweetness and distinct green-vine-stem fragrance. Rustic and robust but immensely charming and appealing. This is just begging for chicken puttanesca with some crusty white bread to soak up those juices. Good Value. (TC). Drink 2021-2023.” 16 points
