The mysterious modern name, the quirky label and the wax seal may well be bait to lure the hipsters away from their kimchi kombuchas, but there’s still something classic, traditional and comforting about this delicious Gamay, labelled as a humble Vin de France, because David Large presumably broke some obscure appellation rule about ploughing uphill on Shrove Tuesday or using left-handed secateurs without permission from the mayor. It’s bright and juicy, as you would expect, with floral, cherry notes, but it also feels supple and mellow and comfortable like an old armchair, rather than a new car seat. It takes skill to achieve that, softening the tannins through gentle extraction and knowing when to leave well alone. A delicious Gamay that’s a bit more ‘serious’ than the label might lead you to believe. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2025.

Press review:

Jamie Goode: “Each year David makes a wine and labels it after a famous car in a movie – here it’s named after the DeLorean in ‘Back to the Future’. This is lively and slightly nervy with a faint hint of volatility at first, as well as bright, direct raspberry and cherry fruit. This is very fresh and lively with a lovely acid line and vivid fruit. Such freshness to this wine, as well as texture and moderate concentration.” 92 points
