Envinate Taganan Tinto, Tenerife, Spain 2021

£39.50

A liquid impression of time and place like no other. You can almost feel the Atlantic breeze on your face and the volcanic rock beneath your feet in this exceptional red from Tenerife. It’s Envinate’s equivalent to a ‘village’ wine from their various plots around Tenerife and is a blend of (among other things) Negramoll, Listán Negro, Listán Gacho, Tintilla, Mulata, Baboso, Sumoll, Malvasía Rosado and Moscatel Negro.

There’s a silkiness to the fruit, combined with ample concentration, reminiscent of a Bierzo Mencia or a Gamay grown on granite soil, with its shiny cherry core, its mineral inflections and its grace notes of white pepper and perfumed silk. Beautifully pure and supple and characterful. 12% alc. Drink now-2027.

Press review:

The Wine Advocate: “There's a herbal and reductive twist in the 2021 Táganan Tinto, from the black basalt soils of Taganana. The palate is austere and stony, very different from the 2022 I tasted next to it. In 2021, they started bottling this wine after nine or 10 months of élevage, before the following harvest. Only 4,000 bottles were produced. Drink now-20230” 95 points
