NEW! Saumur Blanc 'Clos de Guichaux', Domaine Guiberteau, Loire, France 2021
The Saumur ‘Clos de Guichaux’ comes from a family-owned ‘monopole’ of Chenin Blanc planted 20 years ago on shallow soil above a soft limestone bedrock. It was picked by hand, fermented naturally and aged for nine months in older oak barrels. A concentrated, dense and substantial, textural Saumur with plenty of time on its side. Drink now-2035.
Press review:
Vinous: “The 2021 ‘Clos de Guichaux’ is sourced from vines planted in 2003 on shallow soil over limestone. It’s an oaked, nutty, savoury style with a real sense of precision and verve. Focused, taut, yet with tenderness on the light-bodied mid-palate, finishing with a chalky texture. Smart stuff, with energy and tension. It is good now, but will be better with more time in bottle. Drink now-2032.” 93 points
