Port Phillip Estate 'Balnarring' Pinot Noir, Mornington Peninsula, Australia 2019
When it comes to Pinot Noir, we know what we like and we like what we know, except we didn’t know this one until now and we like it, so ignore that. What we love about it is the way it beguiles with grace and flavour, as a great Pinot Noir should, showing that you don’t have to be the biggest marrow at the fete to win ‘best in show’. The aromas and flavours are just delightful, showing wild strawberry, hibiscus, pomegranate syrup and morello cherry with the oak subsumed within the fruit. The beauty of a great Pinot Noir lies in its delicacy, its discreet concentration, its chiffon texture, but most of all the way it surpasses the capability of language to express it, so I should really stop writing. 13.5% alc. Drink now-2028.
Press review:
The Australian Wine Companion: “While medium-bodied at best, with smooth and supple tannins, this packs a lot of flavour and depth. Floats between florals, spicy dark cherries and heady forest-floor aromas. Oak is neatly integrated. It's compelling, complex, lithe and a lovely drink.” 95 points
