“Track down an allocation now before the hype goes mainstream!” - Greg Sherwood MW, 96 points

If we tell you that this is one of the hippest wines to have in your cellar, the very fact of saying it will reduce its cults status among the hipster community, so we’re saying nothing. Those in the know snapped up Sam Lambson’s debut wine, 'Stars in The Dark’, before it had even flickered in the consciousness of the mainstream media, so by the time it started getting rave reviews, there was no stock available. The same is sure to happen with Sam’s new wine from the Elgin Valley, named ‘No Place Like Home’.

It’s a pure Syrah grown on sandstone and shale, blended from 4 parcels that were vinified separately, allowing Sam to create a more complex and balanced blend. It’s quite light in colour and the aromas and flavours would fool you into thinking it came from the northern Rhone not the tip of Africa. Elegance, subtlety, and pure, peppery Syrah finesse. 13.5% alc. 20% whole bunch. 16 months in seasoned French barriques. Drink now-2032.

Mainstream media review:

Greg Sherwood MW: “An alluring and instantly impressive classically styled wine aged in neutral 228 litre French oak barrels for 16 months, reveals complex aromatics of ripe black plum, boysenberry, potpourri, sweet black peppercorns with a hint of sweet grilled herbs and black berry reduction. The intensity and precision of this 2021 are notable and follow to an elegant, medium-bodied palate that coats the mouth with sumptuous, saline cassis fruit layers, sweet smoky black currant and subtle hints of kelp and oyster shell minerality. This is another delightfully vibrant expression that will seduce many Syrah obsessives, with its 20% whole bunch portion adding an extra little complexing sapidity on the long finish. Undoubtedly a wine that is going to cause a stir… but that is exactly what Sam Lambson has become famous for! Start chasing an allocation now and drink this beauty on release and over the next 6 to 10+ years.” 96 points
