Press reviews:

Matthew Jukes: “There were seven different picks following flowering times, exposition, altitude and so on, to bring even more complexity to the party. It has worked. This is the most complex and intricate wine I have tasted from Vajra, and like the other 2021s, it has given itself a different expression and flavour palette in the finished wine. Glorious and multifaceted, this is a thrilling wine with a massive life ahead. There is a half-point more in the tank, which this wine might demand, is added to its score in a few years.” 19+ points

Tim Atkin MW: “For many years, Bricco delle Viole has been an insider’s secret in Barolo, but by now no-one can ignore the uber-serious quality that this high-perched cru delivers vintage after vintage. The embodiment of sophisticated finesse that feels almost Burgundian, it is the most tannic but also most textured and complete of the Vajra single vineyards. A masterclass in controlled vinification as well as a hedonist’s delight.” ‘Barolo of the Year’!

The Wine Advocate: “The organic G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Bricco delle Viole first shows a fragile side, but it eventually rolls onto much greater momentum and focus as it opens in the glass. This is always one of my favourite wines from this excellent producer, and I love it especially thanks to its fine nuances of redcurrant, pressed flower and something a little savoury like peat moss. There is a hint of ashy stone or brimstone. All of these little details emerge with terrific sharpness in an epic vintage such as 2021. Drink 2027-2045.” 97 points
