A new wine from Envinate is something to celebrate, so, although you can’t see us, I can assure you that we have our party hats on and the bunting is up. Parcela ‘Rosende’ is sourced from a single slope of decomposed sandy granite and is mostly Mencia with a bit of Souson, Brancelao, and Gran Negro. It’s an absolutely gorgeous wine, packed with healthy blackcurrant, violets and an exotic inner perfume but with polished glossy tannins that remind me of a top class Morgon. Usually a wine bottled exclusively for the US market, this is only the second time that ‘Rosende’ has been imported to the UK. Toot toot! 12.5% alc. Drink now-2032. Organically farmed. The Wine Advocate: “Without a doubt, the finest Rosende to date is the 2023 Lousas Parcela Rosende. It is at the level of the Seoane [£72.00 a bottle!]. During the end of the élevage and the time spent in bottle, the wine has gained in perfume and elegance, and the meaty edge I saw in the barrel sample last year has disappeared. This is floral, perfumed and intoxicating, and it has a much lower level of ripeness, 12.7% alcohol. There are up to 15% other red and white varieties, which were picked the 13th of September. It matured in neutral 228-litre barrels and a 2,000-litre oak foudre for one year. There is a clear step up in perfume, precision and elegance here. Bravo! Drink now-2035.” 97 points
