Pinot Noir ‘En Barberon’, Côtes du Jura, Domaine Tissot, France 2022
Jancis Robinson once described this wine as “an absolute dead ringer for a Vosne or a Chambolle” and she is spot-on. What a glorious Pinot Noir this is! It plays across many octaves, tinkling the ivories with floral grace notes on the treble side, while dramatic bass chords give the wine depth and richness. You find yourself being pulled up and down as the opposing frequencies pull you towards them. It’s a powerful Pinot Noir, with a Grand Cru structure, yet it’s also sleek and and full of vivid fruit, ready to be enjoyed now and for many years to come. I find I reach for a term like ‘molten rubies’ when describing a wine like this, because the impression it creates is ineffable. In other words, words fail me. 13% alc. Drink now-2040.
