Scar of the Sea 'San Luis Obispo Coast' Pinot Noir, California 2024
“Focused and vibrant with a popping, lively energy.” - JancisRobinson.com, 18.5 points
Jancis Robinson’s team have only ever awarded a handful of Californian Pinot Noirs a higher score than 18.5 points and I can assure you that none of them were £36.00 a bottle, so, within the context of Californian Pinot Noir, this is, dare I say it, cheap!
Scar of the Sea has quickly emerged as one of the key wineries along the San Luis Obisbo coastline, producing super-elegant Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Cellar practices for the Pinot Noir focus on native fermentations, basket-pressing, élevage in neutral Stockinger, Damy and François Frères barrels and bottling before the following vintage. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2034.
Press review:
JancisRobinson.com: “Starts off pretty and light, with scents of cranberry and wild red berries, with a leafy top note. The flavours become focused and vibrant with air, thrusting red fruit buoyed by a handful of thyme and olive leaf, all with a popping, lively energy. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2033.” 18.5 points
