Rosé dos Villões, Antonio Maçanita, Madeira, Portugal 2024
A rosé for the more adventurous drinker, made from Tinta Negra grapes on the island of Madeira. It’s wildly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, which brings freshness and salinity and a sense of windswept ruggedness, but also more familiar notes of pink grapefruit, kumquat and cherry stone (with a bit of red cherry flesh still clinging onto it!). 11.5% alc. Drink now-2030.
Press review:
Decanter: “Profetas e Villões is the latest project of prolific and restless António Maçanita, in partnership with restaurateur Nuno Faria. It's a quintessentially Atlantic rosé, 100% Tinta Negra, with an iodine lining to the sour cherry, cranberry and pomegranate flavours. A whiff of sea spray gives it allure, freshness and, above all, a great sense of place. The acidity is unapologetic but very well integrated and offset by a saline unctuosity on the mid-palate. Deliciously characterful. Drink now-2032.” 93 points
