“So much flavour and delicacy here.” - Jamie Goode, 93 points
JancisRobinson.com (Tamlyn Currin): “Proper lemon-curd and cream-curd richness, the indolence sharpening the cutting contrast of the tiny bubbles and their seemingly salty hiss and spit and thrilling energy. Pink grapefruit and white chocolate, Turkish delight and blanched almonds – sweetness and charm tucked into practical, comfortable, silhouette-striking, strikingly elegant structure. The Black Chalk Classic is, to me, the Coco Chanel jacket of the sparkling-wine world.” 17 points
Jamie Goode: “25 months on lees, then a year on cork. This is concentrated, juicy and fine with crystalline citrus fruit. Such precision and focus with a slight salinity on the finish. Lovely fruit purity, keen acidity, and great balance.” 93 points
Vinous: “The 2022 Brut Classic is a blend of 42% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir and 12% Pinot Meunier grown on Hampshire chalk. Ten percent of the base wines were fermented in oak and the wine spent 22 months on lees. Breezy, brisk freshness is like ocean air on the nose, promising aromas of green apple and lemon. The palate is bright, smooth and slender, beautifully grounded in cool chalk, with a lovely saltiness on the finish. Fine mousse marks the elegance. Dosage is 5.8 grams per litre. Disgorged: February 2025.” 91 points
Grape Blend: 49% Chardonnay, 34% Pinot Meunier, 17% Pinot Noir
