Monbazillac, Chateau Tirecul La Gravière, France 2021 (50cl)
A stunning dessert wine, which shares many of the qualities of a top Sauternes (the winemaker was particularly animated about the 2021 vintage). The sweet apricot preserve and lemon curd flavours are given lift and dimension by notes of lime zest, saffron, honeysuckle and flint, keeping your palate interested as the waves of nectar-like fruit envelop your tastebuds. 12% alc. Drink now-2040. Organic.
Press reviews:
Decanter: “Ripe apricot on the nose. Undeniably rich, yet there’s a bitter pear-skin edge that refreshes the palate. Labelled as ‘Selections de Grains Nobles’, and it shows. Fine acidity keeps everything in check. This will age for many years. The vineyard is planted 50% to Muscadelle, with 45% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Semillon grapes picked in individual passes four to five times each day. Drink now-2040." 95 points
The Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Monbazillac from Tirecul ‘La Gravière’ is utterly charming, presenting a fresh, complex bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, apricot, peach, jasmine and vanilla pod. Round and supple, it’s moderately weighted and perfectly balanced, exuding charm with a fresh, mineral and elegantly iodine-tinged finish. Boasting stunning aging potential, this wine is one of my favorites." 95+ points
