When I posted a message on social media saying “I love this Pinot Grigio!”, an armed SWAT team turned up outside my house. The reason being is that “I love this Pinot Grigio!” has always been my ‘safe phrase’, one that I would never knowingly utter, and which would immediately announce to my friends and family that I was in a hostage situation. The SWAT team were very understanding and I even offered them a glass of Pinot Grigio, but they politely refused. A Pinot Grigio hasn’t featured on our list since we established Vin Cognito in 2014, not because we are Pinot Grigio snobs (our snobbery is reserved for other things), but because, in our ignorance, we didn’t know it could be this good. It’s tightly-packed, like a bulging suitcase full of nectarines and lemons, yet remains streamlined on the palate, bristling with energy from the organically-farmed grapes. There’s just a faint echo of spice that comes from the skins of the Pinot Grigio, which adds a lovely grace note on the finish. 12% alc. Drink now-2025.
