As a general rule (which I will obviously break in the following sentence), Pouilly-Fuissé is a dependable, rather than an exciting wine. However, this one (I told you!), is seriously exciting, it genuinely took us to that rarified private-room where all the top white Burgundies hang out, rubbing imaginary shoulders with the likes of Leflaive, Coche-Dury, Colin-Morey and Roulot – it’s that good! It is much closer in style to a Puligny-Montrachet than a Pouilly-Fuissé, such is the sheer razzle-dazzle that it offers, showing linear precision (i.e. that sense of a narrow, tapering of the flavours towards a common vanishing point), multi-layered complexity and a mineral evocation, which feels as if it has sucked the very limestone from the vineyard and deposited it in the glass. So, while it may be at the top end of what you may want to spend on a Pouilly-Fuissé, it’s a fraction of the price that you would pay for a Puligny-Montrachet of a similar calibre. 13% alc. Decanter: “This delightful wine boasts a good concentration of ripe pear and lime peel on the nose with hints of butter, spice, and some smoky reductive notes. There is a pleasant concentration on the palate, with balanced acidity that leads the wine to an elegant, lingering finish. This flagship cuvée is an assemblage of many parcels (including some declassified premier crus) that total over 9.5 hectares. The grapes are gently pressed before fermentation in tank and ageing in used casks. This wine is a beautiful entry point to a powerful range. 13% alc. Drink now-2033.” 92 points

The Burgundy Report: “Nice attack – width of very attractive yellow-shaded citrus. Lovely direction here – so obviously mineral – with an attractive energy – the barrel is very discrete – that’s just a beautiful wine. One that finished with even a little more intensity at the end. A super persistence for their ‘basic’ wine.”
