Riesling 'Cuvee Theo' Domaine Weinbach, Alsace, France 2021

£36.00

“Weinbach is one of the great names in Alsace.” - Jamie Goode

A bone-dry Alsace Riesling sourced from a beautiful walled vineyard, called Clos des Capucins, a site which Decanter Magazine say “proves that it isn’t just the hillside sites that make great wines in Alsace.” It shimmers with vibrant, glistening citrus, white nectarine and sweet tangerine. It’s a Riesling with an impression of energy and momentum instead of mass, gliding with a kind of tranquil, swanlike grace across the palate. Delicate florals and a cool mineral aspect add further intrigue. 13% alc. Drink now-2028.

Press reviews:

Jancis Robinson MW: “Light nose and quite notable acidity. As yet unformed but correct and lively with lime flavours and not at all expensive.” 16.5 points

James Suckling: Delightful nose of pink grapefruit, passion fruit and exotic flowers. Very cool and elegant in spite of the ample ripeness, with a compact core of fine tannins and minerality. Silky acidity at the finish pulls you back for more. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.” 93 points

Vinous: “The 2021 Riesling Cuvée Theo is harvested in the granitic sand of the Clos des Capucins. There is a slight reduction and a subtle scent, but swirling reveals a touch of orange peel. The palate has the taut, bright citrus wonder we know. A light-bodied, vivid and dry Riesling shining with ripe lemon and subtle tangerine. The finish is bone-dry with a zesty finish. Drink now-2027.“ 90 points

Jancis Robinson MW (previous vintage): “Exotic, rich, pungent nose with truly exciting fruit. Crunchy sensation and really deep flavours. Passion fruit flavours and creamy texture. Electric impact and no shortage of ripe fruit but a long, bone-dry finish. Great stuff. Drink now-2029.” 17 points
