Rieslingfreak No.33 Riesling, Clare Valley, South Australia 2023
Rieslingfreak No.33 Riesling, Clare Valley, South Australia 2023
“A sensational depiction of Clare Valley… a brilliant value wine that shows delicacy and power… a sensational little wine. Ripper!” - The Wine Advocate, 93 points
When someone gives you a slice of a cake that they have baked themselves, there’s a word that you must use without fail when telling them how good it is. You know the word. I know the word. Let’s not linger on this point any longer. Equally, when a Clare Valley winemaker hands you a glass of a Riesling that they have produced, there’s a word that you must use without fail when telling them how good it is. You must tell them how lovely and ‘dry’ it is. It’s a real badge of pride for them, keeping all the balance teetering between ripeness and acidity, but without any sweetness. This Riesling is really delicious, packed with green and yellow citrus flavours and impressions of lime blossom, chalk and white flowers, finishing wonderfully clean and bright. I feel like there’s something I have forgotten to mention. 12% alc. Drink now-2030.
Press review:
The Wine Advocate: “The 2023 No. 33 is a sensational depiction of Clare Valley. It has it all - green apple skins, lime flesh and blossom, crushed rocks, talc and brine. This is a brilliant value wine that shows delicacy and power, site and maker, all in equal measure. Through the finish, the talc and flowers come through with more clarity (it's savoury and fresh too). This is a sensational little wine here. Ripper. Drink now-2033.” 93 points
Jancis Robinson MW: “Already much more mature on the nose than the No 5 2024. Its sharp edges have been smoothed and the palate filled out with citrus and real vibrancy. No hurry to drink this but it is already approachable. Admirably long. Great balance. Drink now-2030.” 16.5 points
